
Following Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health and Development Regional Director Emilia P. Monicimpo’s seven-month tour of duty as the concurrent Officer-in-Charge Medical Center Chief, Dr. Afdal B. Kunting, took his oath as the newly appointed Medical Center Chief of the Zamboanga City Medical Center.
The virtual oath taking was administered by the Department of Health Secretary, Dr. Francisco T. Duque, III, which took place last November 4, 2020 at the ZCMC Administrative Building Conference Hall.
Dr. Kunting’s wife, Dr. Ivy Kunting, his children, ZCMC personnel, DSWD Asec. Jake Jamolod, and other guests attended and witnessed the occasion.
Dr. Duque expressed in his message that the values of integrity and stewardship shall always guide key officials who stand in the forefront in providing the best possible quality healthcare to its constituents. He added that the success of the institution relies on competent leadership.
Dr. Kunting said that one of his top priorities during his administration would be to improve the working conditions of the staff as well as to improve the healthcare services. He said that ZCMC has so much to offer to the people of Zamboanga and the entire region.
Before his appointment as Medical Center Chief II of ZCMC, Dr. Kunting was the head of the Public Health Unit, Public Assistance and Customer Care Unit, Zamboanga Treatment Hub, and Office for Strategy Management.
Dr. Kunting was a recipient of several civic awards such as the Diamonds in the Rough representing Mindanao, which was a search for the most outstanding young doctor in the community setting, the Philippine College of Physicians Exemplar Award for Distinguished Community Leader, and the Most Outstanding Physician award of the Philippine Medical Association Zamboanga City Chapter. He is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City West.
